Wisteria Lane gets an alien, twins, and a murder

We get the wedding first, then the flashbacks? Is there any ABC show that takes place in a linear fashion any more?

My favorite line was Gaby talking about the problems her niece is having. "Yeah, she's one dead dog away from a country song."

When she started her first scene by being snappy, I thought "Ah, nice. There's Drea de Matteo playing the Drea de Matteo character."

As for her family, does anyone ever come to this neighborhood where they don't spend their first two shots on camera just staring menacingly out the window? I guess we're going to have another neighborhood kid obsessed with Julie.

Of course, then we get to the end and we see...whatever that was on her back. Is de Matteo an alien? It looks like she's got kind of a Videodrome thing going on down by her spine. That might be the worst tattoo removal scar I've ever scene.

As for the last scene, great cliffhanger. Is Julie dead? It doesn't look like it from the promos for next week's show, but that may not mean anything. How will they drag out a mystery that seems pretty obvious? Of course, the last time we thought the neighborhood was being stalked by a scary guy who lived in the basement and ate ice cream, it turned out to be his brother. I guess they can swerve us again.

"Brothers & Sisters": Will Kitty and Robert reconcile? Will Justin and Rebecca plan a wedding without a hitch? (Not with Nora and Holly planning it!) And it looks like Tommy (Balthazar Getty) is definitely off the show. He doesn't appear in a new cast photo released this week.) 10 p.m. ABC

"Dexter": Dexter is a dad now, which makes being a serial killer a wee bit more complicated when you're trying to be a good role model for your kid. 10 p.m. Showtime

'Desperate Housewives' returns in strong form

They're heading for a wedding on Desperate Housewives, but you'll have to watch to find out who "they" are.
Don't fret. The answer comes almost immediately, and while it may not be the answer some fans want, it's well-delivered and likely to strike most as acceptable. And that's just the first bit of good news about a strong seasonal return that starts with a bang, ends with a cliffhanger jolt, and offers a good story for each of the wives in between while dropping a possibly worthy new addition in their midst.
The newcomer to this suburban lane is a tough city girl played by The Sopranos' Drea de Matteo, who moves into Mary Alice's now-empty house with her husband (Jeffrey Nordling) and possibly troubled son (Beau Mirchoff) in tow. They clearly have a secret, because if they didn't, they wouldn't serve much of a purpose on the show.
Intros are efficiently made, but the episode's real focus is on the four main housewives. Whether it's Susan's wedding or not, you know she'll be preoccupied by it, so that's her story. Bree is torn between Orson and Karl (Richard Burgi, who has one of his best episodes yet), Lynette is still reeling from her later-life pregnancy, and Gaby is struggling to deal with her now live-in niece.
There's humor and poignancy in all the stories and good work all around. In particular, the hour serves as a reminder of how strong and varied an actress Felicity Huffman is, and of how strong a comic force Eva Longoria Parker has become.
It's true that, over time, Desperate has lost some of its ability to shock. (How could it not?) And it's equally true that the removal of the Mary Alice story has cost the show some of its depth. But it remains a very good TV series, and this is a very good start. There are landmines and possible dead zones ahead, as there always are for TV series. But depending on how some of these stories play out — Lynette's in particular — there's also the potential for a season that returns this already-solid show to top form.
And you get a wedding. What more do you want from one hour?

'Housewives' actress Eva Longoria back to school

Eva Longoria Parker says she is going back to school to learn about her Mexican roots.

The 34-year-old "Desperate Housewives" actress says she will enroll in a master's program in Chicano studies and political science.

In its Mexico edition released Wednesday, Hola magazine quoted Longoria as saying that she wants to "learn more about the history of the country we come from." She didn't say what university she will attend.

Longoria says she also is polishing her Spanish. The Texas native's family is originally from the northern Mexican city of Monterrey.

The actress was in Mexico City last month to take on a Spanish-speaking role for the first time in a Mexican film about kidnapping titled "Days of Grace."

'Housewives' star attacked by Cross cookie

Desperate Housewives newcomer Drea de Matteo has revealed that Marcia Cross threw a cookie at her on her first day of filming.

Speaking to Desperate Housewives Network, the 37-year-old actress - Angie Bolen on the ABC show - added that the accident looked as though it was written into the scene.

"My character made all these cookies for the girls, which I guess is what they do on Wisteria Lane to become friends with each other - make each other food, even though we're the skinniest people in the world!" she said.

"The girls were getting so annoyed that in every take they had to eat a cookie and Marcia finally goes, 'I'm sick of these cookies!' and she goes to throw one on the dish and I wasn't paying attention and the thing came flying at me, hit me in the neck!"

She added: "I was like, 'Wow - she's trying to decapitate me!' It looked like it was written into the scene. It was pretty perfect and it was really funny but I think Marcia felt really bad."

Desperate Housewives returns for its sixth season Sunday, September 27 on ABC.

Eva Longoria on the Set of 'Desperate Housewives'

Eva Longoria looks quite happy and well-paid on the set of “Desperate Housewives”. Holding a hefty script in her hand, our lovely Mexican and wife to Mr. Tony Parker, smiled outside her trailer in Hollywood, California.

The show is about to begin a new season, and hopefully when it can no longer bring in ratings, Eva can start getting some plump roles for the big screen.

Kathryn Joosten's Lung Cancer Comes Back

Kathryn Joosten, who plays Wisteria Lane's cranky snoop Karen McCluskey on Desperate Housewives, is battling a recurrence of lung cancer.
Doctors found a spot on the 69-year-old Joosten's left lung during a recent physical. She was previously diagnosed with the disease in 2001, but went into remission after surgery, without having to have chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Joosten, who is also known for her role as the president's secretary on The West Wing, began smoking at 16, but quit after her first diagnosis.

"Well, I'm not the type of personality to take this lying down, and I'm not accepting it," Joosten told E! Online. She says her doctors are optimistic about her treatment.

Joosten has won two guest-star Emmys for her role on Desperate Housewives. Producers said they are prepared to write around the actress' cancer treatments, but also haven't ruled out writing them into the show.

'Mob' girl aims to shake up the Housewives

LOOKS as though the Mob could be moving into Wisteria Lane, as Drea de Matteo joins the cast of Desperate Housewives.

The star, 37, who won a Best Supporting Actress Emmy for her role as Adriana Le Cerva in The Sopranos, is set to shake things up as a brassy Italian mum with a skeleton or two in her closet.
Desperate insiders say show bosses were looking for a sexy replacement for Edie Britt, the bedhopping vixen played by Nicollette Sheridan.

After sleeping with most of the men in Wisteria Lane, Edie was killed off following a car crash in the last series.

But creator Marc Cherry says Drea's character will be a more mysterious addition to the street, rather than a sexual predator like Edie.

Nevertheless, the husband's of Fairview will not be disappointed with the newcomer, as stunning Drea has twice been ranked in Maxim magazine's Hot 100 Women.

An Interview With Maiara Walsh

The world of acting is undoubtedly one of the toughest places to find success. Aspiring actors often spend years and years trying to score that one gig that will hopefully make them a household name and lead to bigger and better roles. In Hollywood, luck is everything, so imagine being a young actress who lands the role of a lifetime on one of television's hottest shows....

Such is the case with Maiara Walsh, a beautiful and talented young woman who now plays Carlos and Gaby's troubled niece, Ana Solis, on ABC's Desperate Housewives. I had the opportunity to chat with the very sweet and charming Maiara about how she got involved in acting, what to expect from her character on the upcoming season of Desperate Housewives, her favorite TV shows and what every aspiring actor should do if they want to be successful....

Desperate Housewives could be on for years

Marc Cherry has said that Desperate Housewives will be on television for a few more years.

The show's creator admitted that the popular US series still "has a lot of life left in it", though he will soon take on a limited role behind the scenes.

He told The Wrap: "Steve McPherson (ABC Entertainment president) and I agree that we shouldn't keep the show going for more than a couple years past my seven-year initial contract. We don't want it to just fade away.

"We've been in negotiations. I expect to sign my new deal soon to set up a future scenario for the show. Someone else will run the show after season seven and I will serve as executive producer from a distance."

He went on to explain that the programme had been revitalised by the five-year leap forward for season five, saying: "Yes, I think it worked well. It was a way to start fresh and let everyone start from scratch in a way."

Cherry also revealed that the sixth season will not hold any radical plot devices. However, it will pay homage to a classic Dallas storyline.

He added: "What we've planned is an interesting mystery storyline involving one of our beloved characters. It's a 'Who shot JR?' kind of storyline."

First 'Desperate Housewives' Promo Photo for Season 6

A little over a month before Desperate Housewives kicks off its sixth season, ABC has released the first and only promotional photo for the upcoming run, showing the five girls with something, from the iconic apple to a stuffed bear.

The picture doesn't include the new housewife Angie Bolen, set to be played by Drea de Matteo. ABC has previously announced that the new family will appear in only 10 episodes. Instead, Bree Hodge (Marcia Cross) is shown holding a teacup and saucer, Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker) holding a vacuum cleaner, Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) holding a stuffed bear, Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) holding the apple, and Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany) holding a toaster.

"What Wedding, What Way," the premiere episode of Desperate Housewives season 6 on September 27 will promise to reveal the identity of Mike's (James Denton) bride. Both Katherine and Susan were seen wearing wedding gowns on set, but most people tend to think that it's Susan, primarily because of insinuations of a family reunion. But in this day and age, no decent spoiler shouldn't be held without suspicion.

As to what the tea cup and saucer, the vacuum cleaner, the stuffed bear, the apple, and the toaster mean, your guess is as good as mine.

Eva wears dazzling blue dress too Long-oria for her

She's not the tallest star in Hollywood but that didn't stop Eva Longoria from wearing a dress long enough to trip over.
Choosing style over practicality and ditching her usual strappy heels, the diminutive Desperate Housewives star looked radiant as she headed to the studio in the outfit - which was at least three inches too long.

The only giveaway that the actress was heading to work and not to a fashion show was the three large bags she had draped over one arm.
The 34-year-old has obviously developed a penchant for long floaty dresses.

She was spotted a fortnight ago out bridal-shopping in West Hollywood in a floaty pink number.

ABC announces Eastwick fall premiere dates

ABC's Eastwick pilot turned out to be a fun and charming mix of light fantasy, romance, and Desperate Housewives-style drama.

Still, it's hard to predict if the quirky series will turn into a hit or end up on the scrap heap with ABC's other recent high-
concept series (Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, Cupid). The chemistry between the show's three leads, Rebecca Romijn, Jamie Ray Newman and Lindsay Price, might be able to keep it afloat for at least one full season.

Eastwick, based on the film The Witches of Eastwick and on the novel by John Updike, will premiere on Sept. 23 at 10 p.m. ET, ABC announced today. The network also announced the Sept. 27 premiere of returning drama Brothers & Sisters, which is expected to continue its fourth season on Sunday nights.

Eastwick will cap off ABC's upcoming Wednesday night comedy block, featuring Modern Family and sitcoms starring Kelsey Grammar (Hank), Patricia Heaton (The Middle), Courteney Cox (Cougar Town).

'Desperate' books Nordling, Mirchoff

Round out family for Drea DeMatteo's characterWisteria Lane's newest resident, Drea DeMatteo, has found her family.
Jeffrey Nordling and Beau Mirchoff have joined the cast of ABC's dramedy "Desperate Housewives" as regulars next season.

Nordling will be playing a New York landscape designer who moves to Wisteria Lane with his wife (DeMatteo) and their tightly wound, sexy and intense son (Mirchoff).

Heading into its sixth season, "Desperate" has been beefing up the cast with new faces, including new regulars DeMatteo, Nordling, Mirchoff and Maiara Walsh and returning Andrea Bowen.

APA-repped Nordling most recently co-starred in the seventh season of Fox's hit drama "24." He also co-starred on FX's "Dirt" opposite Courteney Cox.

Mirchoff, repped by APA and managed by Vital Management Group, starred in Sony's "The Grudge 3" last year.

'DESPERATE' KIN WILL BE NIECE TOUCH

ADD another potential troublemaker to the Wisteria Lane crew.

Maiara Walsh, who ruffled a few feathers on "Desperate Housewives" late last season, has been made a full-time cast member.

She joins former "Sopranos" star Drea de Matteo, who became "Desperate" last week, as the second big name to join the ABC comedy.

Walsh, 21, will reprise her role as Ana Solis, Carlos' (Ricardo Chavira) comely niece who arrived at her uncle's house at the end of last season -- immediately butting heads with Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker).

Walsh, who's half-Brazilian, is a veteran of Disney Channel's "Cory in the House," where she played Meena, one of Cory's (Kyle Massey) best friends.

As The Post previously reported, de Matteo, who played the doomed Adriana on "The Sopranos," has inked a deal to join "Housewives" as a series regular, playing the matriarch of the newest family to move to Wisteria Lane.

She replaces Nicolette Sheridan, whose character, Edie, was killed off last season via electrocution.

"Housewives" returns for its sixth season Sept. 27.

Desperate Housewives:Who's Under the Veil?

The news of Andrea Bowen returning to Desperate Housewives for the season-six premiere is sparking debate that her homecoming means Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) is at the altar, behind the veil and getting married to Mike Delfino (James Denton).

Spoiler Alert: We're giving you every chance not to peek inside at the evidence we've compiled because all signs point to one Wisteria Lane resident over the others.

Here are the five reasons to support who we think is under the veil...

Without dissing Dana Delany (Katherine Mayfair), we have a gut feeling that Susan is actually the blushing bride-to-be. The facts are these:

Andrea Bowen is returning as Julie Mayer in a regular capacity this season. Mike always treated her like his own daughter while dating her mom, and she'd need to be back to be a bridesmaid in the wedding.

Karl Mayer (Richard Burgi), Susan's ex-husband, was at the wedding (keep your eyes peeled on the 40-second mark). He has no ties to Katherine and he despises Mike. If it isn't Susan, why would he be there?

The season finale script reads "The family is reunited" when Susan and Mike embraced after their near-death experience. Reunited and it feels so good, no?

Because executive producer Marc Cherry wants them together. Regarding the Mike and Susan relationship, Cherry said back at the Paley Festival: "The idea is, we'll get back there. I don't know when. If ABC makes a deal with all of us, it looks like we have a few years to play this out, so I would imagine at some point in time Susan and Mike will find their way back in each other's universe." We think it's about time, don't you?

Finally, we here at WWK simply want it to be Susan because we're sick of the merry-go-round of keeping them apart.

Now that we've given you our reasons for why we think Susan Mayer is getting hitched to Mike, it's time to hit the comments with who you think is the new bride. Susan Delfino or Katherine Delfino? You decide!
